I use Plex in the living room and want to watch YouTube videos on it quite a bit, but the YouTube app for Plex isn’t exactly great stuff, so normally when I want to watch something I go to my PC, and add the YouTube video to the myPlex queue, as it’s just faster that way.
I’ve wanted to setup something for a while that would automatically add my YouTube subscriptions to the Plex queue automatically so I didn’t have to manually add them to watch them on the big screen.
I found a solution, detailed below, that will fetch an RSS feed of your subscriptions, and email each new upload to your Plex email address which automatically adds the link to your queue!
1. First off, I’m assuming you already have/use Plex, otherwise this article probably isn’t for you.
2. You’ll need to sign up for Zapier. This site will automate the email process from the RSS feed.
3. On Zapier, create a new “Zap”. You want to choose the two options below.
4. Note that you MUST have a Gmail account, if you use Zapiers SMTP service to send email, it will turn off your Zap every time a new video is added due to it having a link to stop the Zap (to prevent SPAM). So if you don’t have a Gmail account, just create a free one just to use for this service, or you can use your own if you already use Gmail.
5. Configure the Zap to use the following RSS feed.
http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/base/users/###/newsubscriptionvideos
And be sure to replace the section above with your username, indicated by ###.l
6. Configure the Zap to send to your Plex queue email, which you can see at https://my.plexapp.com/queue/help.
7. You need to configure the title and body as follows.
8. Run a test on your Zap, and you should see your new subscriptions show up, test-send one, and then check your Plex queue, it should be there nearly instnatly.
9. Turn the Zap to “Live” and forget about it, you’ll always have your latest subscriptions automatically added to your Plex queue.
10. If you decide you don’t want this function anymore, just simply login to Zapier, and turn off the Zap.
Thank you!! I’ve been looking to do exactly this for a while! Finally got it all setup and now won’t even have to think about how to keep up with the YouTube videos — can instead watch them right from my living room TV with no hassle at all.
Glad I could help! 🙂
I have plex working.
Have gmail account.
Have Zapier installed and registered.
Problem: Creating my first Zap from YouTube to Plex is not passing the test. I think I am entering wrong username for YouTube.1.
I GET INTO UTUBE via linked with GOOGLE PLUS through my above GMAIL ACCOUNT which gives my real name on the top. But then my channel has its own name in the url which you referred to in your tutorial. what should I be using?
2. Do I have to save a subcription or vidio first in my chanel in YouTube to test it in ZAP?
Thank you helping. feel dumb but need help.

Hello
I was trying to add utube to my plex acct. It said to use zapier. I followed all steps
Then got error code saying unauthorized user?
What to do?
Unfortunately this is now obsolete, YouTube changed its API and got rid of the RSS feeds that actually work – I’ve yet to come across a workaround sadly 🙁
I’ve nearly got something going on python. This should also be better than zapier given the limited use cost model zapier uses.
For those that have used their free zapier trial // want to use a different method, I’ve done a rough tutorial here

This workaround in now obsolete as stated above by Corey. However, there is still a workaround using Zapier that I found. You can use the service to send individual subscriptions (or none subscriptions for that matter) to you plex account by setting up a zap between Youtube and your Gmail account. For the first criteria on Zapier choose YouTube and “New Video”. For the second criteria choose Gmail and “Send Email”.
Under the “Filter YouTube triggers” section, enter the username of the subscription you wish to sent the your Plex Queue.
Under the “Matchup YouTube to Gmail” section enter your Plex Queue email into the “To” field. Then in the the “Plain Body” section click on the “Insert > fields button to the right. Choose the “Youtube.com URL” option.
Test the zap. If you set everything up correctly, anytime a new video is uploaded by that user account it will email the link to you Plex Queue.
I got this working with the daily uploads of Good Mythical Morning. The only problem is YouTube keeps changing the way it shares videos and I cannot actually play the videos from my Plex App on any of my devices. This is apparently a known problem and is rooted in the way YouTube codes things I guess. That being said, Although I can’t play them, the videos are linked to my Plex Queue automatically.
Hi mate, I’ve just read your post and there’s quite a bit of useful info which is good, but I’ve gotta let you know your site was way down in the rankings on Google. I’ve been using this plugin for WordPress which has really helped me drive more traffic to my own blog – WP Authority Links Plugin which you can get at http://bit.ly/1zu5uRT
